Excitation of a Dipole Topological Mode in a Strongly Coupled Two-Component Bose-Einstein Condensate
نویسنده
چکیده
Two internal hyperfine states of a Bose-Einstein condensate in a dilute magnetically trapped gas of 87Rb atoms are strongly coupled by an external field that drives Rabi oscillations between the internal states. Due to their different magnetic moments and the force of gravity, the trapping potentials for the two states are offset along the vertical axis, so that the dynamics of the internal and external degrees of freedom are inseparable. The rapid cycling between internal atomic states in the displaced traps results in an adiabatic transfer of population from the condensate ground state to its first antisymmetric topological mode. This has a pronounced effect on the internal Rabi oscillations, modulating the fringe visibility in a manner reminiscent of collapses and revivals. We present a detailed theoretical description based on zero-temperature mean-field theory. PACS numbers(s): 03.75.Fi, 05.30.Jp, 32.80.Pj, 74.50.+r

Rotons in gaseous Bose-Einstein condensates irradiated by a laser.
A gaseous Bose-Einstein condensate irradiated by a far off-resonance laser has long-range interatomic correlations caused by laser-induced dipole-dipole interactions. These correlations, which are tunable via the laser intensity and frequency, can produce a "roton" minimum in the excitation spectrum--behavior reminiscent of the strongly correlated superfluid liquid He II.

The collective excitation of hybrid atomic-molecular condensate are studied using variational method. The dipole response of the system is studied in detail. We found that the out-of-phase dipole oscillation frequency increasing slowly with the detuning parameter and is only few times large than the trap frequency making the experimental observation of this mode of vibration feasible.

We study a two-dimensional spin-orbit-coupled dipolar Bose-Einstein condensate with repulsive contact interactions by both the variational method and the imaginary-time evolution of the Gross-Pitaevskii equation. The dipoles are completely polarized along one direction in the two-dimensional plane to provide an effective attractive dipole-dipole interaction. We find two types of solitons as the...

Dipolar Bosonic atoms confined in external potentials open up new avenues for quantum-state manipulation and will contribute to the design and exploration of novel functional materials. Here we investigate the ground-state and rotational properties of a rotating two-component dipolar Bose-Einstein condensate, which consists of both dipolar bosonic atoms with magnetic dipole moments aligned vert...
